Make Your Own Shofar

Rosh Hashanah Family Fun.jpg

We have a saying every Rosh Chodesh Elul: It’s about to get very loud in here! There’s nothing like that first blast of the shofar--except maybe the very last one when the chagim are over. I am all about children being hands on with real holiday artifacts and with his help and support, our children love to try their Tatty’s shofar. They also love to have their own and you can easily make one at home using a party blower or kazoo, some construction paper and a stapler/tape.

Begin by drawing or tracing the shape of a shofar onto two sheets of brown construction paper. Children may wish to decorate this. Cut out your shofar shapes and assemble them around the party blower/kazoo. A stapler works quite well to connect the two sheets along the top and bottom. Leave the large end open and use a bit of tape to secure the top around the mouthpiece of your party blower.
